emerging markets in Asia and Africa? Globalization! While in the 80's we had the Europeans telecom vendors holding those market captive, new technology, de-regulation, liberalization chnaged the picture.

Today Nigeria boasts huge mobile subscribers' base due to opening to international operators. This left the captive market for European telecom vendors (the state-owned incumbent) saddled with the obsolete and crumbling fixed line infrastrcuture.

Huawei, ZTE today sell telecom gear and are pushing the envelope even further. This is only the beginning. In about 11 years we will not recognize the telecom markets.

Don't know if you remember when I said that by 2017 those central office swicthes will be dismantled to use the space for car parks and shopping malls...

Think:

Cheap to provide, cheap administer, cheap to bill, cheap to O&M...

and don't forget cheap engineers too!!!
