Thanks for sharing your info, Mq....Now I understand where you are coming from per our discussion the other day.

I have a distant cousin who was one of the many missionaries or ministers, in our family....there is a bit about Lucy Goodale Thurston of Hawaiian fame, at the bottom of this article..... Many of this large family group and related, were what I would call very active pacifists....

Although, don't get me wrong. I'm not in favor of trying to convert anyone to any religion, as they did. I feel if I live my life in a way pleasing to me and to anyone else, they might wonder what is the foundation I stand on.....

Of course. I had forgotten about Sir Edmund. Your cousin is a true hero too.
I agree that most heroes denigrate their own contribution to heroism. I wouldn't expect any less.

Forgive me, but I know what your problem is, Mq. Your standards are too high. I think everyone who does their duty even when it is difficult or uncomfortable is a hero. You might even be one yourself.

Being a good bloke when all around you are losing theirs, etc.

Heroes.

Heroes are important, and people who don't have them are impoverished indeed.
