Hi Mike,
Is this story getting much attention outside New Orleans?

cbsnews.com

Tragic, and I have been/will be following the trial from start to finish.
I first heard of this a few months back when NPR covered the filing of the federal civil rights cases by the victims of these shootings. The interview with the woman whose arm was shot off was chilling. Basically, she and family/friends got shot to pieces on that bridge. The police account is that the victims fired at police first, but threw their weapons into the canal. I have my own opinion, based on [1] the fact that NOPD has a long history of falsifying police reports whenever they screw up, and the victims get charged instead of the police accepting responsibility, and [2] NPR cited the police report in the shooting of the other party, the mentally disabled man who was shot 7 times, 5 in the back. According to NPR, that report states that "the man appeared to be reaching into his waistband for a weapon, when an officer fired at him ONCE." Got miracle of the loaves and fishes?
I have a cabby friend who has a house almost under that bridge. He told me that he had neighbors who stayed during the storm, and they told him the scene there post-Katrina was straight out of "Lord of the Flies". There were cars overturned and burning, and lots of gunfire. I think the cops got called to that scene of utter chaos on the basis of a [phony] report of 2 oficers down, and came out firing. Unfortunately for everyone.

That would be the editorial page.
