Exactly. And it's also why voluntary retirement and health care accounts suck for the poor and lower-to-middle middle class. When offered the choice between one more meal, slightly better housing or nutrition for their kids, or a small luxury that they see many around them taking for granted, versus saving for future events that may or may not happen, which are they going to choose?


In a country as wealthy as this one, helping the poor should not be a bone of political contention.......but here we are. Talking to that guy last nite reminded me of how difficult life can be even for those who can still work and don't have kids.
