I'm not sure "breakthrough" is the appropriate description for such a project. Not in terms of an alternative energy source which is how I interpreted your post. This all just goes to show how difficult it will be to create new forms of energy.

agreed. However, if the prospect of global warming and C02 in the atmosphere is as grim as indicated, ONLY nuclear power will be able to offset coal fired electrical generation, provide the power needed to generate hydrogen to facilitate a transition to a hydrogen based transportation system for cars and trucks, and replace natural gas for home and industrial heating with electrical heating.

No doubt there will be ups and downs in nuclear stocks along with the ebb and flow of the global economy, but as far as I am concerned, the trend for nuclear power over at least the next 3 decades is up.
