You're making an "issue" out of nothing. All public speakers occasionally botch lines. Whoever your hero is (Obama?) I'm sure he's said embarassing things plenty of times. He's also been the unintentional target of gaffes, like CNN calling him "Osama". Even Teddy Kennedy once slipped and said "Osama".

Kerry rarely reads prepared speeches. On the issues he's top-notch and can recite every detail from memory. But the jokes are usually prepared for him and they are not his forte. He'a a serious guy, not a joker. When he blew the joke he was tired and needed his reading glasses. He left out one word. Big f'ing deal. He may be no great stand-up comedian, but in 2008 we're not picking Best Comedian we're picking most qualified president.

Actually the joke he meant to tell was right-on accurate about Bush not studying history so getting us stuck in Iraq. And that is what the whole thing reminded people of, thereby hurting Republicans. Especially when we all saw Bush, Cheney, Snow and others openly lying to the public for full two days. And why did they obsess on this? Because they still fear Kerry. And also they have failed so badly they have no issues to run on. Plus talk about gaffers. Bush actually once said he is trying to destroy the USA. Did you hear that one?

I'm sure Kerry will be very careful in the future not to gaffe. He will also make a joke out of the botched joke and everyone will forgive him, including you. Plus, he will fight back if they ever try to smear him again. He is chomping at the bit to get his revenge against the rightwing on the smearing issue, and someday he will. If not, let's do it for him. He deserves our support. As does Gore despite the fact he blew it in 2000.
