I figured the heat and dryness would get to people after a while......like with Palm Springs

Palm Springs is a great example. But you make it sound like Palm Springs is a dump in the middle of Death Valley.

Why are you reinterpreting what I said? I made no reference to Palm Springs being a dump. And that certainly isn't my view.

Don't lots of people live and retire in Palm Springs because it's really nice? I've only been there briefly for a conference, but my understanding was that it has lots of golf, tennis, pools and is a pleasant community for those that can afford it.

Its very nice but it only has about 50K people. The heat and dryness especially in winter can be a nice respite from bad weather but for a lot of people, its not desirable year round...me included. Why do you think so much of California's population lives near the coast?
