"Maybe the Dems should just investigate the crap out of everything to keep them on the defensive."

That is what they are afraid of. That is part of what is behind the stuff about Obama and all. They started the "just making it up" attacks to try to counter the growing mound of evidence of systematic corruption that was building up. Their only hope is to brew up as much dirt as they can, even if they have to make it up, so that any investigations seem like pure partisanship and Democratic attempts to smokescreen their own corruption.

They have another big problem.......most of their leading lights have been discredited or badly diminished. Think about it......Allen, Santorum, Frist and now Rudy G. I still can't get over Allen's meltdown.....given his good ole boy charm and the RNC network, he would have had a good shot at the presidency. The only one they have left now is McCain and he wants to escalate the war in Iraq. That will not play well in most cities in this country.

Aside from having lost badly in the midterm elections while witnessing a crumbling of their national network, they don't have a lot of prospects for the 2008 run for president. So, of course, they have to get aggressive big time!
