Mr. Bush is going to have a very hard time convincing anyone he is a true fiscal conservative. He wants his tax cuts perpetuated, so he has to lay out some kind of roadmap that will get people to think that decreasing revenues from taxes will not be a problem down the road (like a collapsing dollar with all that brings!). How to do it? If you won't increase revenues with hard dollars (taxes), increase them with frothy projections for economic growth and then promise to cut spending..

Of course, we have seen for the past six years that this is all silliness. But some will buy it. It's about his legacy, after all.

Frankly, the danger of the world losing confidence in not just the dollar but other major currencies worries me a lot right now. This kind of smoke and mirrors won't help.

Where is REAL fiscal reform?
