Yeah globe, I posted to they instead of red, my bad.. The trust issue well to beat it once again after 4PM ... The money eventually is taxed in the hands of the investor.. Are we to eliminate RRSPs RESPs... too ? Actually cynic that I am, I believe the reason we still even have RRSP/RESP is due to the low participation.. They should have simply restricted the trusts to resource companies and Canadian ownership... When I was 90% trusts.. they were not too too many foreign investors.. Most investors cannot make good dough in the market.. it almost always comes down to the greater fool with stocks.. no matter how one wants to colour it..

When earnings go up.. we bid up a stock ... why ? are we getting a piece of the earnings.. no but directors and CEOs etc get fat sallys and perks.. With the trusts at least the the investor shared directly in the profit or loss.. No one can convince me that Flaherty made anything but incredibly stupid move... so stupid that if I were his direct boss.. and not just by virtue of one vote out of millions.. he'd be out on his a$$.. The government simply showed no leadership or imagination in this issue (guess that's why they are in government sigh). Harper has lost my respect and probably my vote also for the next election. The flow through shares etc remain.. and are not the stuff for the little retail investor.. The trust escapade hurt a lot of small retail folks..

the upshot is again we look like some investing backwater.. while instead they could have focussed their attention on something useful like a national securities commission instead of all this provincial mumbo jumbo..

This can be done by eliminating corporate and personal taxes, and moving to a system of user fees and value added tax. Many won't but I heartily agree with you on that point..

anyway enough politics here...

Al
