"Iran is grateful to US. Osama Bin Laden is still around in some cave somewhere scheming (he also conveys his regards to Junior for removing Saddam)."

In fact, Iran is the big winner. Not only was Saddam removed, Iraq was taken out of the picture as the regional power and the mullah's power was strengthened at home. Based on the results, it is almost as if the administration was doing the bidding of Iran.

Wonder if there is a money trail?

removal of Saddam was not a stated goal so we can count that out

Incorrect. Regime change had been US policy for many years....

removal of Saddam was not a stated goal so we can count that out

To the contrary, it was a stated goal, over and over.

"All the decades of deceit and cruelty have now reached an end. Saddam Hussein and his sons must leave Iraq within 48 hours. Their refusal to do so will result in military conflict commenced at a time of our choosing." -Bush speech to the nation 3/17/03

"And tonight I have a message for the brave and oppressed people of Iraq: Your enemy is not surrounding your country, your enemy is ruling your country. And the day he and his regime are removed from power will be the day of your liberation. ..." -Bush SOTU speech 1/22/03

And of course, there's this, signed by Clinton:
H.R.4655
Iraq Liberation Act of 1998

Bill Summary & Status for the 105th Congress
H.R.4655
Public Law: 105-338 (10/31/98)
Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 - Declares that it should be the policy of the United States to seek to remove the Saddam Hussein regime from power in Iraq and to replace it with a democratic government.

Fact is, removal of Saddam has been official US policy since 1998. Stated... over and over.
