mass migration from desktop to portable systems..
portable sales saw an incredible 43 per cent growth,

Looks like having all the "cool" characters in the junk^H^H^Trash^H^H^H^H^H^H eh "cool" TV shows using Mac laptops might have helped a bit (and an illuminated Apple logo on the hood helps to advertise the brand whether on TV or airport) But then it did take a while - didn't they use the G3 powerbook in "A" Team? :-)

iTunes sales, iPod services and sale of third-party iPod accessories – also climbed by 110 per cent, adding $1,885 million to the company's bottom line

Ah, no need to thank me, I knew the kids' iTunes allowance would do it! :-)
Uh oh - wait - I better check my bank account...

With Net income of $1,989 million in 2006, I doubt that:

The 'other music-related products and services' category – which includes iTunes sales, iPod services and sale of third-party iPod accessories – added $1,885 million to the company's bottom line.

which would be 94.77% of the total net income.

>>Note: I highlighted a paragraph near the end. It seems some posters here believe that iTunes sales are 'bottom-line negligible'. This should totally dispel that idea.<<

No, I don't think those numbers do dispel that idea. Since the category includes profits from the retail sales of third party accessories, it's likely that the bottom line impact comes from that.

Apple has stated repeatedly that the iTunes store itself is only very slightly profitable.

PS: Some of the numbers from that post are questionable. While the poster is correct that Apple's sales growth has been phenomenal, I think he could have been more careful in crafting the post.

For example, he talks about desktop unit sales of 2,434,000 and portable sales of 4,056,000 units for the September quarter. I think those figures must be for the whole year. Apple has never sold more than 2 million total cpus in a single quarter.
