Not according to THIS Republican Bush voter:

Dr. Leininger estimated that his system had reduced his household carbon emissions by nearly 30 tons since it was installed in June, and that it was well on its way to zeroing out."

Read the whole article. Your logic is just like the idiot that still buy incandescent bulbs instead of CF bulbs - penny wise, pound foolish.
