Giuliani Urges Agressive Approach

June 12, 2007

Rudy Giuliani urged an aggressive approach to terrorism and illegal immigration Sunday night, earning a standing ovation from a crowd well mixed with backers of other candidates and undecided voters.

The former New York mayor came to town as featured speaker at the Republican Party of Orange County's annual Flag Day Dinner, which attracted more than 1,100 of the faithful.

The Flag Day theme … suited Giuliani well, as he moved seamlessly into discussion of the Sept. 11 photo of firefighters planting Old Glory in the rubble.

"That's essentially the same photograph we saw from Iwo Jima," said Giuliani … "America never retreats. America never has its head down. There's always someone to lift the flag."

He then called the war on terror "the central struggle of our time"

On illegal immigration, he outlined a three-point plan

He wants a tamper-proof ID card for all foreign-born residents. He wants a high-tech fence spanning the border. And he wants a "Border Stat" program that could swiftly reposition border guards.
