Fine read but as always from Frank Rich but when Rich gets into his Bush is playing the "Kissinger Decent Interval" i need express my counter view.
i just want to note i disagree with everyone that holds that view:)
Bush is an authentic fanatic idealog and he is NOT playing a Nam "retreat and call it victory" game.
I feel this is where Rich and many many others don't understand Bush is NOT Herr Kissinger, and as much as i had utter contempt for Kissinger in the 60/70s and will always view him with cold scorn, Bush is not Kissinger and he is not following that old plan, and as such Bush is a lot more dangerous.
This my view.
Here is Frank Rich with his view <<The “surge,” then, is a sham. It is not meant to achieve that undefined “victory” Mr. Bush keeps talking about but to serve his own political spin. His real mission is to float the “we’re not winning, we’re not losing” status quo until Jan. 20, 2009. After that, as Joseph Biden put it last week, a new president will “be the guy landing helicopters inside the Green Zone, taking people off the roof.” This is nothing but a replay of the cynical Nixon-Kissinger “decent interval” exit strategy concocted to pass the political buck (to Mr. Ford, as it happened) on Vietnam.>> And this i reject. FWIW, Max
