Some good responses, and I appreciate your effort. Some questions of mine...

Admission that Iraq is a label and not a country ..
What do you mean by that...?

Do you think the current government of Iraq should divide themselves back up into pieces as they were? What if they don't want to do that?

That our policy going forward will be to facilitate the
re-rationalization of the region along ethnic/sectarian
lines in as peaceful a manner as possible involving all
groups/states ie Jordan/Saudi/Iran/Syria/Turkey;
something that should have been done after WWI ..

Well, maybe after these nearly 100 years that would be possible....anything is possible.....

Refocus on cleaning up Al Quida and
strengthening the Afghan government ..

Put more pressure on Pakistan or actively
help them root out Taliban remnants ..

How are you planning on getting Al Qaeda out of Iraq, and the rest of the countries in the Middle East, and for that matter, all over the world? Surely, you don't think they will slip right back into the black goo where they came from and disappear from sight, not ever to return, do you?

Hand the administration of Baghdad off to the UN ..
as a UN protectorate with the goal of peaceful
self administration by the locals ..

Totally bad idea, IMO. The UN can't get along with itself, let alone be trusted to do anything with any kind of responsibility....

How was Berlin governed after WWII? maybe that is a possibility....Don't think the UN was in there...and that was probably a good thing.

But it sounds nice..........."peaceful self administration by the locals....."................

OH Triff.... Did you bring the flower petals in the basket...I'll skip along side, and help you toss them....

Think anyone will think that is helpful?

Transition the entire operation to a
UN administered action over time ..

A few years ago the UN vacated Baghdad after being hit by a truckbomb and a few fatalities.

By most yardsticks the UN is an enemy of America and western civilization. At least 90% of UN members would vote for 'DEATH TO AMERICA'.

A recipe for diaster and the continued reSURGEence of Islamic fascism.

People who think the U.N. can successfully take control of Iraq are either naive or willing to see the whole place go down the drain. Oil For Food...Rape of children in Africa.....bribery/extortion/graft/nepotism/incompetence......you name it. The U.N. reputation just plain stinks. And when is the last time they saved anything but their own a***s?
