Seems to me that you are very familiar with Chicago politics. You bring out some good points about Obama's strong points and his vulnerabilities.

I think Biden will be a first tier candidate along with Edwards, Obama and Hillary.

The Republican field is getting very muddied with the Guiliani diaries and Mitt's stands on issues like gay marriage etc.

Does Obama actually take risks, or does he "position himself" for future situations?

If a middle class white business man runs for office and loses then he's DONE.

When a Harvard educated African American with Obama's background and charm loses, he gets noticed and put on everyone's list of future candidates.

If Obama runs for President and loses it will NOT diminish him, it will create more of a myth for him (unless he gets goofy like Howard Dean did).

He has nothing to lose and everything to gain by running.
