Sure, all US war heros are "traitors" to the rightwing, at least any US hero who challenges the lies and corruption of GW Bush. To the fascist (and ignorant) far right, the Vietnam War was a noble cause. Killing two million people and getting 55,000 US troops killed to save us from Vietnam, a country that hasn't harmed us one iota since the war, was no threat to us, and even declared war on Red China as soon as we left. So the far righties think anyone who fought to end that war is a "traitor". The real traitors though are the civilian policy-makers who deliberately lie to get us into needless quagmire wars, and keep us there much longer than we have to be, therefore badly damaging our military. draining our treasury and killing scads of innocent people. Among those traitors are Bush-Cheney. Plus smearvet types who continue to lie to the American People and pretend Vietnam wasn't the insane self-destructive atrocity it turned out to be.

Smearvets also consider John McCain a "traitor" and they said so in 2000 during the South Carolina primary, where they helped smear Silver Star winner McCain for draft-dodgers Bush-Cheney to make sure no one half-honest got the GOP nomination. Why would these rightwing extremist vets consider war heros of both parties "traitors"? Because some of these bozos are criminal conmen in the business of bilking war widows out of their pensions by claiming their lost-lost husbands are still alive in Laos or whever, and McCain and Kerry proved there were no surviving MIA and POW's. Also perhaps because they have been lying about how "noble" the Vietenam War was for so long that they can't change their stripes now, and they would have to deal with the guilt. After all, these smearvet types are guilty of atrocities themselves. Admiral Hoffman, one of the chief smearvets, though he praised Kerry as a hero in the 90's, was known in Vietnam was the king of the hootch burners, torching Vietnamese villages just in case they might help the VC. Which was one of the ways we lost the war so badly, by turning the vast majority of Vietnamese against us. By killing many of the very same people we claimed to be "liberating". Poor farmers and their families mostly.
