At least stick with your original position instead of folding so quickly. " My original point was that you can't blame or credit the leader of a country for all the bad or good things that happen there. You expanded my "the leader" to "the government", which is not what I was talking about. The government is a whole bunch of people and has a lot more power than just one guy, but even the whole government is not as powerful as the people themselves. Re: "If the guy over in North Korea got up tomorrow morning and decided he wanted to do something different, he'd have a decent chance of making it come about short of, say, a coup. A million North Koreans sitting around wanting to do something as individuals would have much less of a chance of making things change. " Interesting theory. Do you have any examples of this ever happening in history? All the improvements I can think of were rather broadly based movements rather than just one guy waking up on the right side of the bed. One guy only has hands to hold two guns. One guy relies on others to give whatever power beyond two guns he has. Your thinking is just as defective as George Bush's. Bush thought that all the problems in Iraq were caused by Saddam Hussein, and by getting rid of him, the country would magically transform itself into a democratic paradise. And after all your complaining about Bush, here you are spreading BS of the same sort. Furthermore, in the case of Iraq, I doubt that "getting rid" of the whole Baathist government (whatever that means) would have turned the survivors into good little savages. Countries have to reform themselves from the inside, not from the top and not from the outside. -- Carl
