You must be very selective on where you go.

Some south asian countries are very careful to tell you that if you have any drugs on your person they will kill you (not very friendly). In Singapore they can cane you just for chewing gum.

A lot of these countries also charge you to leave (departure tax). Heck if we make their stays here a little less comfortable - maybe we can raise money by doing likewise.

The VISA requirements for a number of countries require notarized statements, police background checks etc. Hotels demand (and some hold onto) your passport (that's not done here).

In general we have been way to easy in the past.

Now also some 'friendly' countries have very permissive immigration and insist that we treat all their citizens the same - so we do :-)

John

I travel outside the US frequently and you wouldn't believe what a bad reputation that US embassies and border and Customs agencies have in other countries.

Getting into the US (and getting around once you arrive) is still less onerous than many countries. Some you can't get into at all.

I don't have any idea whether this additional security is valuable/necessary or not. But once I'd agreed to give up two fingerprints, I can't imagine balking at ten.

Would it help them to know that they are really able to visit 50 States, many of which are the size or bigger, of many World Countries...? They wouldn't/don't have to go through customs of 50 States like they would if they visited 50 Countries....

They only have to do it once.
