I don't know what other people do.

I use my civic most of the time, but my 3 large teenagers and large husband don't really squash in to a civic very well- so on the weekend, if we're going out together, we use the Pilot (which is probably small for an SUV, but we like it). I use it only a couple times during the week. We have the pilot insured as a pleasure car, since it has very low miles. If we go to Disneyland, or to the snow or the beach, we would also take that car.

I'm not so sure about this LC. There aren't stats for this because IMO no one is using their heads on this. In order to do a study one needs to get a sampling of 10 families and follow their comings and goings, reasons for same, any purchases (that might have fit in a norman size say...Pathfinder) that they needed to have delivered after going to a store to purchase them because this counts as another trip as well even if made by someone else. Picking up kids in a car when they could have been pooled in an SUV, and whatever else factors in which is not obvious at first glance.

Its not really all that simple. I know that without my Infiniti QX4 I would be making many many more trips every week including trips others have to make to deliver stuff.

I do agree that people should not only jam as much stuff in their SUVs as possible so as to minimize unnecessary trips but also try to give rides to others where possible.

Another thing. I don't buy the safety claims. Hummers, Land Rovers and Mitsubishi Pajeros are the safeest vehicles out there otherwise they wouldn't be used by Gods many armies.

LC, you prefer this post to my YOutube stuff-lol.

"I'd be interested to know the proportion of urban trips by SUVs that use its carrying capabilities. I rarely see one with more than just the driver in it, so unless they are all carrying large amounts of cargo on every trip...

This is not even to touch on the safety issues with SUVs, both to their own drivers and passengers and to other cars on the road. That's why it took hundreds of millions of dollars in political donations to get American politicians to exempt the the truck-based ones from the passenger safety regulations that apply to every other vehicle on the road."

Time to light up and pour a glass of wine, I cannot be serious tonight-lol
