They could always leave the insane S. Cal. RE market area, and buy a home in any one of a hundred less crazy areas too.

when I brought up that option to avoiding poverty CJ and other libs said moving wasn't an option, family and all. so which is it ?

JCP, I don't need "imagination." The previous owners of my home took the appreciation (tax-free, of course) and paid in full for their new home in Idaho.

It's a little late for me to do the same, hence I won't be one of the beneficiaries of Clinton's tax cut. But at least I caught the tail end of the real estate boom.
