Fire starter. They tend to attract lightening and live through it. And when the cotton flies it's a good time to catch big bass.

Cottonwood fluff is great for starting fires with a flint and steel. I saw a demonstration of it at Traveller's Rest, on the 200th anniversary (to the day) of Lewis and Clark's encampment there.
