re: Patriotism is love and devotion to one's country.

If you have equal "love and devotion" to all other countries then patriotism looses it's meaning, doesn't it? Unless you think patriotism is about the land mass and not the people.

Few people have equal love and devotion to all countries, much less more than one. Saying a Canadian life is equal to an American life (all else being equal) doesn't mean I'm in love with Canada. I in fact pity the Canadian because the poor guy hasn't been able to get American citizenship yet, and perhaps if he keeps trying he may one day succeed and join us and not have to live up in the socialist frozen North.

The great thing about the USA is its (theoretical) inclusiveness and acceptance of all peoples, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, etc. You can love that ideal (the country) while still valuing a Canadian as much as an American.

re: In athletics it would be like giving the American javelin thrower a better javelin than the non-American thrower. You see that that's wrong, correct?

In military terms it would be like giving your soldiers better weapons than your opponents. You think that makes sense, right?

Sure - if you are going to try to kill some group you should do your best to kill them and not let them kill you. Nothing in my views is incompatible with that.

But I still don't get it why you appear to care a lot about the American worker and don't give a damn about the non-American worker. Human life is human life.
