They're there to stabilize for oil.

It doesn't matter what kind of government Iraq gets as long as it's ammendable to quashing fighting long enough to extract oil out of the country. It couldn't be clearer.

No one, including McCain and Graham, thinks that 20,000 troops is enough to stop civil war in a country of 25 million when 140K troops and 100K contractors have actually escalated the violence. So what's the plan?

Note that if Iran gets into the mix the price of oil could really take off. ExxonMobil will be sitting on an embarrassment of riches...if they actually had any shame of course.
