Re: Saddam's self control. Not "ironic" that a man of strong will can control his emotions better than men of lesser will. His entire sense of self worth was invested in self control, as is usually the case with men accustomed to ruling others with an absolute will, see, e.g., the dignity of Charles I at his own exection, Marie Antoinette and Louis XIV, and (it is said) Czar Nicholas.
