Oh please. What has that post got to do with pursuing our own interest and the goal of promoting some species of peace over there?

"The right thing for us to do." I see. It was an ethical choice, not an inept one, not a diplomatic mistake. Principles are principles, and the cost? You can't let the cost, however great, influence you when it comes to doing the right thing, you feel.

You wrote, "and I paraphrase, the Iraqis asked, 'look, is it our call whether and when to execute him?'"

If they'd asked, "Look, is it our call whether to have a trial or not?", would you have said, "It's their call"?

If they'd asked, "Look, is it our call whether and when -- and in what manner and atmosphere to execute him," would you say, "It's their call"? -- whatever the cost from our POV?

That kind of makes us their bitch, it seems to me.

We had a lot of people fighting not to turn him over. The call to Condi should have stopped it immediately. And she has access to Bush. Oh wait. Bush. Nevermind.
