There is no military solution that will keep Israel safe forever.

I agree with that. Heck, I even think people like Olmert think that. And Sharon--certainly in the last 5 or 6 years, he agreed with that.

the emphasis on a military solution makes it all but impossible to tell the truth about where Israel has failed -- and where those who claim to support Israel have done the most harm to Israel.

I partly agree with this. That Israeli leaders have hurt themselves--repeatedly--over the past 30 years or so is incontestable. But that Palestinean leaders (including as "leaders" not just Arafat, though he is most definitely included, but also minority party leaders in Hamas) have hurt themselves as well is also incontestable. It is a far more complicated situation than simply blaming one side will permit without severely damaging the reality of the situation and the possibility of amelioration.

This destiny is directly from the pen of those who time and again speak out to denounce criticism of Israeli atrocities.

As you might guess, this is something I do not agree with. It is spoken so definitively and in such an absolute tone that it appears to absolve anyone else of any responsibility. Which is complete nonsense. Of course knee jerk reactions to criticism of Israel is nonsense. But so are knee jerk silent absolutions of Arab states for their part in this mess. They aren't simple victims, any more than Palestineans are simple victims. The mess will contine as long the dominant voices on both sides of the issue continue to be voices of blame of one side or the other without recognition of multiple sources of blame and responsibility.
