Re: "All I can say is Smoot Hawley."

Aye... that's a very useful cautionary note!

(FYI --- I am a very BIG SUPPORTER of free trade... not to mention low and simple tax systems, and individual liberties.)

Anytime you notice me politically *supporting* something like Congress threatening to impose tariffs on China, Japan, etc., to induce them to stop manipulating the value of their sovereign currencies (which preferentially advantages their exporters vs. ours...), or efforts to have the US Treasury Department utilize it's statutory authority to officially label what China is doing an illegal 'manipulation of trade'... it is likely to be a TACTIC I am supporting, in an effort to achieve MORE free trade, not less.

A tactic, not an aim in itself.

(In other-words: politics and international relations are ROUGH games... it is not wise to approach them with one hand tied behind your back).

I wonder who is less tolerant, and Islamicist or a Liberal?

Members of the a cappella Baker's Dozen were performing at a party in San Francisco at the new year when their rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" apparently sparked taunts and threats from fellow partygoers.

As the group left the house, they were attacked by dozens of assailants, suffering scrapes, black eyes and concussions, said Connecticut's News Channel 8.

"Besides any bruising or scrapes to the face, the main injury I suffered was I broke my jaw in two places," one of the singers, 18-year-old Sharyar Aziz, was quoted as saying
