It's the human condition NEO. US was built on the foundation of no religious persecution and open borders to fill open space. Of course screw the africans and Native Americans was part of the legacy too, along with indentured servitude and preference of one immigrant group over another. I think back to the Sarajevo Olympics. Who would have expected Milosevec to devolve something like the spirit of that time and then who would have expected Serbs to turn it around in short order with a relatively stable situation. I would maintain Sarajevo like iraq was an illusion--a bubble waiting to burst between its moslem, croat, and serbian roots or shiaa, kurd and sunni. There are no rules for any of this. As for issie and pal, if the pals had accepted 1947 partition you may very well have had two or three states living in peace and creating some sort of regional EU.
