Ichy....Do Canadians allow just anyone to come into their borders (not through any gates) but rather "sneek in...."???
The US has ALWAYS had laws about coming in Legally and those who don't are called ILLEGALS. We now have not only Mexicans but many from all of the South America and Central America areas, as well as some undesireables from all over the world.

On our Northern borders with Canada, I suspect we have much the same thing coming in from Canada, and probably some of the folks from our Southern borders make their way to your borders as well.

If you read the article Unclewest just posted today, you will see a sample of that. My guess is you in Canada don't want carbombers, or other such bad characters coming into Canada than we do here.

And as far as Passports are concerned: If you go to any other country in the world, you have to have a Passport. Right?
So what's the big deal here?

I know Canadians who come here because many items are cheaper in the States. We ourselves go to Canada because it is different there, and beautiful, plus we like most of the people.

Since you all seem to want more people, perhaps we could send some of the huge influx that are coming here to you .....

We have several Million immigrants who come her LEGALLY every year, both as Refugees, and Legal immigrants. It's the ILLEGALS who are causing the problem....

Are we creating a problem with Canada and Mexico, in order to not face the problem we have with Islam?

The terrorist aspect of the border issue, IMO, is secondary. We had the problem before 9/11. The terrorist aspect has added an additional wrinkle, has involved Canada, and it's called more attention to the problem but the southern border problem would still be a problem without factoring in the terrorists.

And as for Canadians paying $75.00 and dealing with the Federal Government to get a passport to go to Buffalo for a quart of milk, most won't.

If a Canadian passport is like one from the US, it's good for ten years so the cost and inconvenience of getting one aren't that much of a factor. I expect it's the principle of it more than the money. I've crossed my northern border plenty of times, occasionally on the spur of the moment. The southern one, too. I've always held a valid passport but I don't carry it. That would be a real pain. Particularly given their awkward size. So there are practical considerations, too.

I don't think the Mexican workers we encounter through our business realize, or have been educated about how difficult going back and forth between the two countries is getting/has become. One worker.....an employee of a sub we use...... left to go back to Oaxaca......his home....to help his family during the current struggles. We asked him if he was coming back, and he is confident that he will be able to come when he pleases.

I'm not so sure he will have as easy a time of it as he has in the past.
