There is no evidence Bush ever flew anything solo in his life. This Buck guy could have been trying to help Bush by fudging the truth. I'm sure Bush went up with a trainer in the cockpit with him, but never solo. And he was totally incapable of knowing how to land on the air-craft carrier. He never flew again because he never really learned how in the first place. He buggered out and wasted millions in tax-payer money, just to keep his precious ass out of Vietnam.
