How did he backhand them? It just seemed to me that he chose two of their songs to play. I don't recall his making any snide comments or anything.

There has been no public announcement re: details of the deal/settlement yet every indication from the keynote indicates that AAPL got everything they want/need from the Beatles. He used their music (which still isn't avail in the iTunes Store... I'm not aware of him ever using music you couldn't buy from the store) and dropped the 'Computer' from 'Apple Computer.' Previously, either of these would have likely resulted in a lawsuit given the litigious relationship they've shared over the decades so it seems safe to say that a deal is in place. Ever notice how Jobs can't say enough good things about those in good standing with him? Yet he didn't say anything re: the use of Beatles music and without any comment definitely had a 'doing this because I can' (very likely) or a 'doing this because I must' (not likely) quality to it IMO. After all, now the surprise is blown and Jobs loves to surprise as was demonstrated yet again on Tuesday.

If you think I'm over-analyzing this, how about this one: think back to the fall of 2005. Jobs demos the ROKR which he seems to have an unusually difficult time with... completely guts the ROKR announcement with the Nano... and by the way, is already heavily invested in secret development of what will become the iPhone (TM Cisco ;-) which will eventually be a direct competitor. Funny, I didn't see Moto onstage for the iPhone keynote.
