"What were the real reasons for Bush originally going into Iraq?"

Moktada Al-Sadr told his followers in 2003 that the real reason we invaded Iraq was because Al-Mahdi will be revealing himself in the near future and the Americans want to murder him.

The Al-Mahdi Army was established on that premise and instigated the only insurgency that was never defeated (Allowed to walk away with an agreement that they were not being disbanded). The Al-Mahdi Army now declares itself to be a part of the shadow government built by Sadr, backed by Iran and threatening to be the future official government of Iraq.

I think Al-Sadr is a maniac con man, like most people who claim there is some insidiously secret 'Real Reason' for the US invasion of Iraq. What do you think?

Bush went for the oil and the power. But he blew it badly because he tried to skip the hard part, doing his homework and dealing with reality.

The real reasons for going into Iraq???

I look forward to the day when we finally get to know. Someone said that these are dark days in American history while this is true, I am old enough to remember the JFK assassination and Watergate; America recovered from these events. It will recover from this presidency as well. I am not an American and from my perch the real tragedy arising from the events of the last 4 years has been the way this president has isolated his country from its traditional friends and allies and created an environment of suspicion and paranoia within his own borders. I will state my firm conviction that when he finally leaves the White House, George W. Bush will go down in history as the worst president in the history of the republic.
