Those are the type chins Les Schwab sells (and I have).

They have a deal where you can buy the chains in the fall and if you do not use them, return them next spring for a full refund.

I'd just buy them, chuck 'em in the trunk and know they are there in case you need them.

Those look a lot like what I had. You simply draped the chains over the tire then reached around the back, took a long rod in hand and hooked it to a loop on the other end of the chains. Next you hooked "stretchers" on the front, or face of the chains and they took all the slack out. Drive away! Great things!
