One of the urban myths that many of us have been fed growing up is that its very possible to go from being born poor to very rich in one generation in the US. Its usually referred to as a Horatio Alger story even though you're saying its really from poor to middle class, and not rich.

And while it is possible to become rich in one generation in this country, it can be difficult to pull off........usually, but not always, you have to have considerable good luck or be very dishonest.
