By subsidizing stadiums the taxpayer is enabling salaries like A-Rod's.

It contributes to such high salaries, but A-Rod's and many other athletes would still have very high salaries. Dumping public funding, while probably a good thing in its own right, would have at most a moderate effect on the salaries.

"Corruption and disregard for the common good" is to general to be very meaningful in this context.

Not in the English language it isn't. Perhaps your speaking some closely related language that I don't understand. "Corruption and disregard for the common good", could be exhibited in countless ways. Some of which do no little or not harm, others of which can be massive problems. Lumping everything together with one term and acting like they are the same thing isn't very useful. The specific situation we have here is entertainers making a lot of money. If you can show me any civilization that collapsed from that specific thing then maybe you'll have an argument.
