I don't know why you think that is true. You don't read the latest test results? Even the system has made the tests easier and we're still failing. Link please. Please note the tests to graduate are getting harder, not easier. Teachers can't even teach the test and get the numbers better. Link please. Record numbers of teachers can't even pass what they're responsible for teaching. Can you? Yes, I passed the test last year. One of the hardest I've ever taken. If a wannabe teacher can not pass it, they don't graduate. It's not our kids' fault. It's the parents and the failed entrenched tenured educational system. I am not sure what you think is at fault. Please explain. What part of it concerning parents' and tenured teachers being at fault do you not understand? What I see as the problems in the US educational system are as follows: 1) Poor school districts do not have enough money to operate and maintain their schools. Inner city schools in many cities are fire traps and health hazards. They lack essential educational equipment such as computers. Wealthy school districts are building taj mahals, helping to widen the gap between the haves and have nots. 2) Teachers don't get paid enough money. Too many teachers go back to school and get their Ph.Ds so they can teach on the university level where the pay is much better. Our schools lose their best teachers to other jobs because of the poor pay. Its particularly difficult for a male or female if he/she is the sole breadwinner. In fact, 80% of teachers are women because of the salary problem. 3)Poor blacks and Latinos, particularly the males, are in trouble. Most of that has do to do with societal problems and discrimination.......gangs, ghettoized lifestyles, single parent households etc. There is a generalized decay in American cities that is hard to ignore since New Orleans and Katrina. 4) The boys are lagging behind the girls. Its a complex problem that has a number of causes. One of the problems is too many of their teachers are female [see above]. They need more male teachers to balance things out.Z just finished his education 8 years ago. He doesn't sound poorly educated to me. Fortunately some of us discovered how to pick up a book and read and learn on our on. Why are you in college? I got all of my licenses and certifications with no classes or teachers. I have my own library. I don't need a teacher to read a book to me. A book that is years out of date. You are required to have certain degrees in WA state to teach. My fundamental point is, new schoolhouses, great football teams, higher paid teachers, bigger unions, smaller class sizes, or a new Escalade for every high school student isn't going to solve why America's children are falling behind. Then what's your take on the situation? I've given you mine.
