Hi Frank,
nope, they are a competitor. I've run across them a few times in military applications.

We were somewhat surprised at the distances we were seeing as well. For design purposes we are not counting on the 1800'. We generally expect about 1500' between nodes in normal entries (about 1000' to 1200' down the belt entry). The longest shot that we have made that still had a solid link is 2100'. We are using 5.8GHz on the backhaul with 15 x 18 degree, 19.2dbi panel antennas. Our first tests were with all 2.4GHz, but we wanted to get the client traffic off of the backhaul so we could get more throughput for data and voice applications.

And yes....the mine faces are 3-4 miles from the downcast. I have one above ground application on the mexican border that is a string of pearls type application that is 30miles from end to end with the longest single link being 14.4 miles.
