That was an interesting article, Karen. Good timing, too! I was just thinking of retiring my everyday hat and getting a new one. The underside is black, but the outside is brown - permanently discolored by the rain, the sun, a couple years worth of pollen that I meant to brush off but didn't, and the dust from the Georgia red clay. It's long lost it's stiffness and is hand shaped several times a day according to the weather and the position of the sun. Now I think I'll keep it for another year.
