Bush's action, coming at a time that it is, could very strongly shape the outcome of the Presidential election 2008.

If the Iraqi situation is brought under control, then the chances of McCain becoming our President is very very high.

If he does not succeed, then Chuck Hagel getting the Republican nomination increases with Mitt Romney as his running mate. Also, the chances of a Democrat getting into the WH in 2008 increases significantly. The American people may turnaround fully and decide to go for a President who advocates working with other world nations to seek a political solution.
