Floyd,

Every web page you visit is logged by the hosting server, and every object on that page is logged by its respective hosting server. That is the nature of the Internet.

This particular user placed an object that had no actual image to display, but that is the extent of the difference. It does not tie it back to specific users anymore than viewing a post that had an actual graphic... or even a graphic that was simply one pixel the same as the background color of the page.

At least, that's what I'm seeing here.

I agree with Dave, we're badly misusing the term "spyware" here. No "program" gets downloaded to your computer through these posts. All that happens is your IP address gets logged. Simply defeated by using an anonymous browsing proxy, or possibly even more simply by just resetting your net connection and getting a new IP address assigned afterwards.
