An old family story I remember. During WWII my father was a member of The Colorado State Patrol. He and his family before him were all staunch Republicans. The patrol was rather small in those days and I always believed my dad knew everyone in the State. One day he was approached to run for our county sheriff's office on the Democratic ticket. He discussed this with his mother, my grandmother, a stauncher Republican. She said "If you do, don't expect anybody in this family to vote for you!" He remained on the Patrol and went on to become deputy chief.
