They don't need to try anything in the Gulf,

They keep making noises about how they can shut the Gulf down and drive the price of oil to the sky. They know now that they can't.

But all of this tension is why I agree with Barnett that we need to figure out what we want Iran to do, and come up with a plan to get them there.

No matter what we do, long term, they are going to be the premier power in the Gulf. Are we going to spend the next 50 years with a fleet in the Gulf, always on the point of war? I don't think so.

What we want is a stable, rational Iran that is not run by the Mullahs. So we should keep that in mind as a long-term plan, let them know that is what we are after, and let the people of Iran know also.

Just sitting back and saying, "oh, we can never get there from here" is not an answer.
