As you say, its a "safe" aquisition perhaps not living up to the high hopes put into the founders, see earlier comments from Carl and me:

I think it is only a result of the fact that due to valuations in general, the biggest problem appears to find reasonable aquisition targets. Still - the best of the companies do a direct IPO and not a reverse merger.
As for the repurchases or retirements of stock it seems that the pressure of investors on initial management is pretty high.

After a series of naughts it can be expected that some shells succeed and do not liquidate; otherwise investors would no longer support the concept of collecting money into shells at low interest rates.
