Pretty much all religions seem to consider mankind "special" as the only inteligent beings in the universe, and assign us a special status with their God or Gods. We know now that it's quite likely that we're only one of millions or even billions of intelligences in the universe.

So, what makes us special? When we finally DO find proof of alien intelligences, what will it do to religion?

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all based on flat earth cosmology...

There was some thought that Christopher Columbus was going to sail off the "edge".

You might have noticed the row over Saddam's execution wrt to Islamic holidays, and how they are determined (lunar observance). The history of time determination, astronomy, and chronology all owe a great deal to religiously inspired zealots, who, for religious reasons, really needed to know what time and day it was, since God required obedience or death in that regard. All of which only makes sense if the world is flat, and is clear nonsense on a round world.

At least the Druids built stuff to settle it, e.g., Stonehenge
