As far as my post --- I don't think I said anything really original, or that others haven't said before, but maybe it hasn't been put together in exactly that way before.... In truth, I am really NOT pessimistic about the chances for US and 'Western' strategic goals being achieved... I actually do believe that we have a great opportunity that lies before us. (It simply might require a little re-thinking of our tactics... but actually the ground has all been prepared for things to break in our way, long-term and hopefully permanently.) It's just that standing in the middle, pouring our precious blood and national treasure into futilely attempting to keep the Sunnis and the Shiites from engaging each other across central Iraq, to me appears to be the equivalent of 'shooting ourselves in the foot'... working AGAINST our OWN NATIONAL INTERESTS.
