The surge is a desperate measure to save the face of the administration. Imagine saying: we went there spent billions got 3.000 of ours soldiers killed, spent all the political capital we had, since today abroad the majority is against the war...

That would be disastrous. Bush send a few troops more to postpone the inevitable pullout.

Seating in the sidelines, the Israelis are thinking their fire at will policy must be changed if they have to get some peace...

The Iranians have been emboldened by the late developments and the US have been weakened. It gets even worse: If the US opens talks with Iran it appears it is was forced to do so.

That's why I think the US will do something this year what I call pyrotechnics:
