The rightwing FBI declared war on hippies and put most of their leaders in prison. It was real persecution. This after CIA's MK-ULTRA were actually the ones who introduced them all to LSD in the first place. testing is as a "chemical weapon" at Stanford and other places. Another thing they did was in 1967 to start busting grass and LSD dealers, but replace those softer drugs with DMT, speed, etc. The DMT was in 50 gallon drums at a nearby Army base. It was a nasty drug that produced a two-day bummer and turned people into zombies. Speed killed. Cocaine killed. Booze kills. Cigarettes killed, but grass has never killed anyone. J. Edgar Hoover was behind a lot of it. He was secretly a gay drag queen in private, but hated hippies, gays, blacks, liberals (called them "communists") and rock musicians. He went after them all and tried to destroy them. I also suspect him in the assassinations of JFK, MLK and RFK. He had the motive, opportunity, means and plenty of kindred spirits in MK ULTRA who had brainwashed "lone nuts" at their disposal.
