That's crazy. When I took business law decades ago, I remember us learning that if the spirit of the law was broken, then it's illegal as well. I guess that's for the courts to decide, but the case you described seems pretty darn cut and dried.

A recent flapdoodle here in Utah, maybe the MOST Republican state in the country, was a local company who's owner gave 28 of his employees $2000 with instructions to contribute it to a local candidate and get around the individual contribution limit of $2000! The opponent complained.

I think they may match and raise you in Idaho.
